The 17-series is watchmaker Ming’s entry-level yet final edition of the series that was a sell-out and now discontinued. The 17.09 Burgundy dial is famously eye catching because of its Clous-de-Paris guilloche, laser-etched and lume-filled indices on the underside of the sapphire crystal in place of convention indices on the dial. These features make the timepiece unbelievably unique and proves the founder Ming Thein’s industrial design creativity. Powered by the automatic Sellita SW330 movement which was been modified by the famous Schwarz Etienne to add an independent hacking hour hand adjustment complication for utilizing the GMT feature. Baltic, a French micro-brand that specialises in watches with retro style launched this piece as a 3rd collaboration with Dubai-based retailer Perpétuel.  This time it’s a twist its best-selling micro-rotor wristwatch, the MR01.  This limited edition of 300 pieces includes several details that makes it even more special than the MR01.  None so more then the green dial with Eastern-Arabic numerals, at such an affordable price! 

Hanhart 417 X Revolution Edition Mk II

Being a legendary German maison for chronographs and stop watches since 1882, Hanhart built the first pilot’s chronograph for the German armed forces from the mid-1950s for almost ten years. This model gained its spotlight when personally worn and loved by non-other than the mercurial “King of Cool” Hollywood actor Steve McQueen who also made the Tag Heuer Monaco and Rolex Submariner the brands they are today. This watch was in fact documented in many of McQueen’s motorcycle expeditions and had an appearance in the movie “The War Lover”.

The 417 was one of the most beautiful yet rugged designed military chronographs ever created and was reintroduced by Hanhart in 2020. It is impossible to deny the suave of this brutal yet handsome bronze 39mm chronograph with a luminous sunburst chocolate dial with recessed subsidiary registers which is limited to 200 pieces in collaboration with Revolution and The Rake magazine.

The Cartier Tank Divan was introduced in 2002 after the successful launch of the Tank Francaise. It was a watch that was designed from scratch and not a modernised version of a vintage model. Instead of a vertical shape, the case of this Tank was now horizontal and even the largest model wore very well, especially on smaller wrists. The Tank Divan takes its name from the French word for “couch”, owing to its wide shape and cushioned contours. It had a short-lived life and was discontinued five years later in 2007. One such watch was this Montblanc Villeret 1858 which was launched during the SIHH 2007. It consisted in four models and this model was limited to 58 pieces. This is a near perfect, exclusive piece, targeted at those who cherish exquisitely finished movements. Gevril is often described an underrated brand that not a lot of people are aware of.  However, Gevril certainly has a rich heritage that is reflected in the timepieces they produce.  The brand dates back to the mid-18th century with Jacques Gevril, who was a rising watchmaker at that time, where he became the Royal Watchmaker for Spain.  In the 1990s, Gevril was acquired by a Swiss distributor, which prompted the brand’s re-launch at the 1995 BaselFair.  At present, the Swiss brand has two main collections, known respectively as Gevril and GV2.  This particular piece is from their GV2 collection.
