The first reference of the Rolex Batman GMT was released in 2013, ref. 116710BLNR. At the time of the 2013 release, the Batman hype was in full swing and the dark night just seemed fitting for a watch of this caliber.  This was the first time that Rolex had introduced blue and black together. In the past Rolex released blue & red and red & black bezel combination, but this was completely new, which was considered a major move by Rolex. Since the Rolex Batman release, it has became an instant classic and has become a grail watch for many Rolex collectors. One of the key attributes that we have grown to love about Rolex, is that they are subtle with their changes, this is a key core strength in designing a timeless wristwatch.  So for example, a Submariner from the 70s looks just as good as a current production Submariner.  So with the Sea-Dweller the most notable change was the larger 43mm case (replacing the discontinued SDK4K that was 40mm).  The other key change was the re-introduction of the red font on the dial, this is nice nod to the original 1967 sea-dweller.  This is the perfect watch for someone who’s has or had a Submariner or SD4K and wants something with a little more wrist presence.  Also, historically speaking, we know that anniversary releases make great investments over the long term, so this is definitely a classic in the making!
